The print market's recent difficulties mean that big media companies are looking to spin off their newspaper and magazine properties into separate entities that will have to fend for themselves. Following News Corp. down this path are Time Warner and Meredith. The two companies hope to each shed many of their magazine titles, which would be used to create a standalone company.
