DIRECTV added 103,000 U.S. subs in Q4, beat analysts estimates

DIRECTV added 103,000 net new U.S. subscribers and increased revenue in the U.S. by 5% to $6.3 billion in the fourth quarter, the satellite provider announced last week. The results, which beat consensus Wall Street estimates of 96,000 additions, draw praise from analysts, who cited DIRECTV's focus on retention. CEO Mike White said the company would focus on encouraging subscribers to upgrade their equipment, and he has earmarked $2 billion in capital spending to improve its facilities.
