Report: After reinvention, department stores gain market share

Department stores are showing growth after several decades of stagnation, thanks to innovation and the poor performance of big-box chains during the recession, according to retail research firm Customer Growth Partners. "Department stores from Macy's to Nordstrom, and mall operators from Macerich to Simon Property Group, have used the recession not just to cut costs, but to reinvent themselves," said CGP President Craig Johnson.
