Canadian franchise company explored the US despite downturn

The economic downturn in the US did not prevent M&M Meat Shops, a Canadian franchise company, from fulfilling its expansion plans south of the border. "We ventured into the [US] about 18 months ago with company-owned stores," said M&M Meat Shops President and Chief Operating Officer Gary Decatur. "When M&M Meat Shops was launched in 1980, that was in the midst of a recession as well. And we're proud to be over 470 stores in Canada today, literally coast to coast."
