On-site child care, fitness centers and telecommuting are a few employee benefits that cost a lot of money but don't do much to make employees happier or more productive, Serena Reep writes. Instead of merely providing "more stuff," companies should "concentrate on the soil," which means focusing on providing perks that are fundamentally tied to company culture, Reep writes.
