Monetizing games starts with recognizing payment trends

Expect gamers to use a variety of traditional and alternate payment methods in the immediate future, predicts a Magid survey for PlaySpan. "[C]losed loop prepaid game cards, smartphone payment apps, and electronic transfers from personal bank accounts proved to be equally popular to traditional payment methods," so developers should avoid confining themselves to a particular currency type, writes Jennifer Schulz, Visa's global head of eCommerce. Expect in-app purchasing to continue to supplant paid-app models, and recognize that adopting digital wallets may be more popular among male gamers than female ones, Schulz writes.
