API, coalition want transparency in credit card fees

Vermont and several other states are considering legislation to make credit card companies provide a "complete paper copy" of fee rules to merchants to make apparent the marked up "interchange" fees they charge -- which support rewards programs. API has joined a coalition to raise awareness of the fees that are decreasing the profit convenience stores make in the sale of gasoline. Vermont's bill would not alter interchange fees but would make them transparent so merchants could better anticipate expenses.
