Modern bridge design sparks controversy in Los Angeles

A cable-stayed bridge design that is spare and modern has met with criticism from Los Angeles residents who prefer the sweeping arches and decorative pylons of the current 6th Street Viaduct. City officials note the Viaduct is eroding because water has seeped into its concrete. Replacing it is the only option, and a replica would add an $30 million to the cost of a new bridge, officials say.
