Energy companies are forward-selling natural gas

Chesapeake Energy sold 96% of its 2011 natural-gas production, compared with 5% of oil, indicating energy companies want to lock in natural-gas prices before they drop, as well as wait for oil prices to increase before they sell. Improved technology in natural-gas drilling has created a near-record surplus, depressing market value.
