Analyst details lopsided investment in smart grid

Significant sectors of the smart-energy industry are being largely ignored by venture capitalists, according to an analysis by GTM Research that found the bulk of investment dollars are diverted to a handful of efficiency and storage technologies, while solutions such as distribution automation and energy management remain underfunded. Analyst Zach Pollock blames the discrepancy on investor reluctance to fund projects that are enmeshed in the highly regulated utilities sector but adds that 2013 will witness the further convergence between IT and utility operations, particularly in the field of analytics.
