Celiac disease prevalence drops in Swedish children

The overall prevalence of celiac disease among 12-year-olds in Sweden dropped from 29 in 1,000 in 1993 to 22 in 1,000 in 1997, a study showed. The findings, which appear in the journal Pediatrics, support current infant feeding recommendations that call for gradual introduction of gluten-containing foods beginning at 4 months of age.
