Customization in the cloud

Cloud providers such as CloudSigma and ProfitBricks are letting clients customize their virtual machines with CPU and RAM specifications, Brandon Butler writes. As Gartner's Lydia Leong wrote in an e-mail, "Allowing arbitrary VM sizes allows customers to size VMs that fit the needs of their workloads as exactly as possible. ... Customers typically feel that this is the most cost-efficient approach."
