Nortex, Panhandle Telecommunication close 700 MHz spectrum buys

A group of rural-based carriers in Texas and Oklahoma have completed their purchases of 700 MHz spectrum blocks from Verizon Wireless, meaning that four other previously announced purchases remain open. Muenster, Texas-based Nortex Communications and Panhandle Telecommunication Systems of Guymon, Okla., closed on the sales this week following the mid-January completion of a deal by Colorado Valley Communications for a five-county area around Houston. Also, the Federal Communications Commission has given certain holders of Lower 700 MHz A-block licenses a six-month extension -- until Dec. 13 -- on their interim deadlines for building a Long Term Evolution network.
