Refocused alternative school helps reduce expulsions in S.C. district

School officials in the Aiken County School District in South Carolina committed two years ago to overhauling the district's alternative school -- Center of Innovative Learning at Pinecrest. Since then, the school has added counselors, instructional coaches, teachers and more accommodations for students with disabilities. The school received recognition recently during a school board meeting for helping to reduce the district's expulsion rate by 50%.
