The Renewable Fuels Association is criticizing a bill by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., that would set a ceiling on how much the Environmental Protection Agency can increase the Renewable Fuel Standard's cellulosic biofuel target each year. The bill would "turn back the clock to days of petroleum domination" just when cellulosic ethanol is about to enter the marketplace, said RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen. "Why limit the speed of progress toward energy independence from any domestic resource?" Dinneen asked.
