What factors are preventing women's advancement?

Companies have to determine what factors are inhibiting women's rise to the top before they can get more women into leadership positions, writes Kathy Caprino of Ellia Communications. Among other things, women may be held back by company cultures that marginalize them, don't allow them to be themselves and don't mesh with familial concerns, she writes. As organizations pursue change, women can also make a difference by "step[ping] up to their fullest potential to claim the leadership authority they want," she writes.
