Analysis: Ubuntu for tablets is good news for developers

Canonical is releasing a developer preview of the Ubuntu operating system on tablets, stressing its multiplatform utility, writes Scott Merrill. "This puts Ubuntu in a class by itself when compared to other multi-device strategies. [I]OS and Android are well suited for handsets, but don't perform well -- if at all -- in traditional desktop environments. ... [D]evelopers with touch-enabled desktops can test out their mobile applications right from their desktop," writes Merrill.
