Apple's "App of the Week" rakes in freemium benefits

The 2-year-old "Infinity Blade" game application jumped from virtual obscurity to being a top-five download because it was featured as Apple's App of the Week, Matthew Lynley writes. Although the price of discovery is the requirement that the app is offered for free, the "Infinity Blade" developers got a sizable lift in in-app purchasing from the deal, according to AppData. "The moral here is basically that converting the game to freemium -- even for a week -- is driving more monetizable users to Epic's games," Lynley writes.
