CN gives update on natural gas research project

Canadian National's research experiment on two locomotives fueled by liquefied natural gas is "progressing well," said CN spokesman Mark Hallman. The Class I's project is one of several in Canada that aim to explore the viability of using LNG as a substitute for diesel fuel. However, the idea faces several challenges such as "the adoption of industry standards because locomotives from one railway often run on another carrier’s network," Hallman said.
