Girl set to undergo transplant of bioartificial trachea

The surgeon who previously transplanted a bioengineered, stem cell-based trachea into a patient, now is preparing to treat a 2-year-old girl born without a trachea. Earlier procedures involved the replacement of diseased organs. The method is being investigated for possible use with more complicated tissues, including the esophagus and diaphragm.
