LSI debuts cell base station chips using ARM designs

LSI has introduced the Axxia 5500 line of chips for cellular base stations that incorporates cores designed by ARM Holdings. LSI chose the ARM technology because of heat and power consumption considerations. The Axxia 5500 base station ICs will compete with chips from Altera, Broadcom and Xilinx, among others.
