Could senior-friendly urban areas ease boomers' retirement?

While baby boomers largely have chosen to retire in the suburbs, some policy experts say that encouraging seniors to move to urban areas could help ease the costs of caring for retirees. Senior-friendly apartment buildings and urban areas with public seating can make for an environment that's easier for retirees to navigate. "You could organize a building where younger couples might say, 'We'll shop for an older person if they'll water our plants or sit for the kids,' " Urban Institute fellow Howard Gleckman says.
