Companies such as Intel and Virgin America offer employees a chance to temporarily switch jobs with co-workers, which officials say helps employees expand their internal networks and learn new skills. The job switches can last a few weeks or up to a year. "In organizations today there is more emphasis on adaptability, teamwork and learning agility. Companies have to be flexible about creating opportunities for employees to opt into projects," says Caroline Paxman of SHL, a talent-measurement firm.
