Convention center in Canada redefines meaning of sustainability

Designed by LMN Architects + MCM/DA, the Vancouver Convention Centre West in Canada pushed the boundaries of sustainable building through the integration of "community, people and environment" in the context of architecture, said Michael Beaven, Arup Associates co-group leader. The project was recently named "Sustainable Building of the Year" by World Architecture News. The designers' work is an example of the "architecture of lifting the spirit, not just [a] mechanistic way of addressing environmentalism in architectural design," said Beaven.
