Leap signs 4G roaming deal, pares back capital spending

Leap Wireless said Wednesday that it had completed a roaming deal with an unidentified carrier for Long Term Evolution service and reported a net loss of 337,000 subscribers for the fourth quarter. The prepaid carrier also said that it would curtail capital spending by up to 37% and seek more partnerships for hooking up subscribers to 4G service rather than building out its own network. "By far and away the biggest thing is the device pricing and the ability for customers to pay for the device," CEO Doug Hutcheson told analysts. Leap also said that it had come to terms with Sprint Nextel in an unspecified dispute over their wholesale mobile virtual network operator agreement.
