Academies focus students on careers after graduation

Aerospace technology, health, construction engineering, information technology and multimedia design are just some of the career academies available for middle- and high-school students in Collier County, Fla. Bolstering such programs is especially important in light of research that shows students who participate in career and technical education programs are more likely to graduate and go on to additional schooling after high school, writes Joe Landon, executive director of the Communications and Community Engagement department for the Collier County School District.
