Mobile gamers are shifting to Android and iOS devices, stats show

Dedicated hand-held consoles are giving way to Android and iOS mobile devices in use by gamers, according to statistics released by analytics site App Annie and IDC. In the fourth quarter of 2012, consumer spending on iOS games nearly matched the amount for Nintendo and Sony hand-held consoles, the stats reveal. "While the most popular games and their business models are quite distinct, Nintendo and Apple were surprisingly close in terms of aggregate consumer spend on game software in the fourth quarter of 2012," IDC's Lewis Ward said in a statement.
