Is a "physical Internet" the logistics solution?

The current global distribution system that uses trucks and containers to get goods from factory floor to store shelf has some challenges, which Benoit Montreuil of Laval University says could be solved by collaboration and a "physical Internet." The idea, which has won attention from retailers such as Wal-Mart and Walgreens, trades standalone warehouses for open distribution hubs and creates a relay system for truck drivers to keep goods moving.
