Apple had the top two selling smartphones in the fourth quarter, with Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S III in third place as the three devices accounted for almost 28% of the estimated 217 million smartphones sold worldwide in the period, according to Strategy Analytics, a research firm. Consumers bought 27.4 million iPhone 5 handsets, 17.4 million iPhone 4S models and 15.4 million Galaxy S III phones.
