Syracuse, N.Y., paper may now be ahead of the game with digital plan

Advance Publications' Syracuse, N.Y., Post-Standard may have done the right thing by reducing print publication to three days a week and emphasizing digital, say observers at the local S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Although digital readership is no greater than it was two years ago, digital ad sales increased by 25%. "I'm optimistic for the Post-Standard and what they are doing because they can now leap ahead of the change and no longer be part of a business model that started to erode five years ago," said Dan Pacheco, the Peter A. Horvitz Chair in Journalism Innovation at the Newhouse School.
