Data storage is a key bottleneck for mobile applications, and could cause software to behave sluggishly even as network and processor speeds improve, researchers say. Alternate data-caching methods can make an app four times faster, according to preliminary tests. "Why would anyone want to see a 20-second wait if they can get away with five seconds?" asks researcher Nitin Agrawal.
