For detergents, innovation is key to increasing sales, execs say

Laundry-detergent manufacturers can overcome difficult economic conditions by innovating with new product forms and ingredients, said executives who spoke at the American Cleaning Institute's annual meeting. Officials from Procter & Gamble, Sun Products and Dow Chemical each discussed the potential of single-dose laundry detergents, and Evonik Industries introduced a room-temperature active ingredient for fabric softener. P&G's Tide Pods are scheduled to hit stores this week.
