Amy's Kitchen heats up the market for frozen vegetarian fare

When Rachel Berliner injured herself during pregnancy and could no longer cook healthful vegetarian meals, her husband, Andy, picked up some frozen dinners at a health-food store. Problem: "They tasted like cardboard," Andy recalls. Sensing a need, the couple took 100 hand-made vegetarian pot pies to a health-food show and started taking orders before they knew how to fill them. Twenty years later, Amy's Kitchen boasts 140 products and $240 million in sales. Amy, the baby who helped start it all, is now in college, training to take over the business.
