NYC charter school serving students with special needs aims high

A charter school in Harlem, N.Y., serves many students who have special needs with small class sizes and an inclusion model for class placement. The Opportunity Charter School in December had its charter renewed for two years, after being temporarily placed on a closure list because of poor performance. To remain open, the school must meet certain academic benchmarks, including raising its college placement rate to 50% from 22%, and earning a "B" grade on the student progress section of the school's annual progress reports.
