Column: Travelers on major airlines face more fees

Some major airlines are charging travelers for checking more than one bag and selling assigned seats and pre-flight boarding privileges as part of an effort to boost revenue, The New York Times' Joe Sharkey writes. Sharkey notes that major carriers are adding fees because they must keep fares low to compete with discount airlines.
