Construction unemployment hits highest level since 1976

Builders have seen no respite yet from the recession, even as the wider job market recovers. The construction industry lost 75,000 jobs in January, bringing sector unemployment to 24.7% -- the highest since 1976. And 50,000 construction workers a month could lose their jobs in the first half of this year, according Ken Simonson, AGC's chief economist.
