CMS issues proposed rule on stage 2 meaningful use

A proposed rule released Thursday by the CMS raises the standard for providers to receive incentives under stage 2 of the meaningful use program for EHRs. Under stage 2, doctors will need to satisfy 17 core measures and three out of five menu options, while hospitals must meet 16 core objectives and two out of four menu options. Stage 2 will not start until 2014.
