Inspiring students to pursue STEM careers requires a new approach

Emphasizing the need to be outstanding at math and science to have a successful career in a science, technology, engineering or math field may be dissuading students from pursuing STEM fields in school and beyond, writes Russell Mickelson, CEO of STEM Academy. "In order to fully appreciate the value of math and science, the majority of students today need to be explicitly shown the rationale and application of the lessons they are learning," he writes.
