What to consider before converting a 401(k) to a Roth

A provision in the American Taxpayer Relief Act allows participants in traditional 401(k) plans to convert their assets to a Roth 401(k) while still employed. Such a conversion needs to be considered carefully, especially as IRA conversions may be more attractive -- Roth 401(k)s don't allow for recharacterization, as Roth IRA conversions do. This post lists six questions to ask before proceeding with a 401(k) conversion.
