Jean Medina, spokeswoman for Airlines for America, has responded to a press conference at which Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood warned of the effects that sequestration could have on air travel, including the closure of air traffic control towers and flight delays of up to 90 minutes. "Air transportation is a key driver of our economy, and should not be used as a political football," she said. Medina urged lawmakers and the Obama administration to work together to keep 2 million travelers flying safely every day. An analysis by Bloomberg states that 54 of the 72 towers targeted for shutdown had already met the FAA's guidelines for closure due to low traffic.
