Elimination of 12(b)-1 fees would reduce broker-dealer revenues by about 1%, a report by Boston College's Center for Retirement Research says. David Bellaire, general counsel at the Financial Services Institute, disputes that conclusion. "Based on what we know from the past proposal, our reading is that it would eliminate commission compensation. The result of that is much more profound than a 1% decrease in broker-dealer revenue," he said.
