Rail expansion occurs across Texas due to surging demand

Construction of several rail projects is under way in southern Texas to meet increasing demand for service from projects in the Eagle Ford Shale region. For instance, a 1,000-acre rail yard project in San Antonio includes an extension of Union Pacific's main line, while Watco recently completed a track expansion project at Port San Antonio's East Kelly Railport. These projects help in luring oil and gas companies that have rail access among their business criteria, said David Marquez, director of Bexar County economic development.
