Raw-food exemption would be problematic, FMI says

Hilary Thesmar, FMI's vice president of food-safety programs, voiced concern about a proposed exemption to the Food Safety Modernization Act for food that is "rarely consumed raw" in a presentation during the Ag Outlook Forum. "We'd really like to see some type of way to move products on or off the list if there were to be food-safety issues after the rule becomes final," she said. "Because ... 20 years ago, who would have thought that spinach would be a food-safety problem?"
