"Russian" maths programme gets students started early with algebra

An after-school programme used in the US has students learning maths Russian-style, with an approach that focuses on logic, abstract models instead of rote memorisation and algebra at the earliest grade levels. The Russian School of Mathematics programme was launched in Massachusetts in 1997 by engineer and Russian immigrant Inessa Rifkin, and co-founder Irina Khavinson, an educator.
