Antibiotic-resistant meningitis raises public health concerns

U.S. public health officials are increasing surveillance efforts and warnings after several people developed meningitis bacteria resistant to the widely used antibiotic ciprofloxacin. The CDC says providers in Minnesota and North Dakota, where three cases have been identified, have stopped using Cipro for meningitis to prevent the spread of the resistant strain.
