Researchers measure gold nanorods to detect tumors

Researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Israel are exploring the use of diffusion reflectance metrics from injected gold nanorods to detect tumors in vivo. Higher concentration of the materials can indicate the presence of tumors, according to the study published in the Journal of Biophotonics. The diffusion reflectance measurements can be used to determine nanorod accumulation, which researchers said could lead to earlier tumor identification and possible treatment applications.
