SEC to seek adviser data in effort to harmonize fiduciary standard

Investment advisers will soon have an opportunity to tell regulators more about their practices, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro said. The agency plans to issue a data request to the industry as it works to harmonize the fiduciary duty for brokers and advisers. The information is needed for the SEC's regulatory-impact analysis, Schapiro said.
