Adult acne puts spotlight on phototherapy

When drugs are not an option or don't help, some dermatologists are turning to phototherapy to treat acne in adults as the condition has become more prevalent. "There's a real therapeutic need for a treatment that can be used to treat moderate-to-severe acne that doesn't involve Accutane," said Eastern Virginia Medical School dermatology professor Dr. David Pariser, who is leading a study of a photodynamic acne therapy.
