Palliative care clinicians see patients who have chronic pain even when their overall prognosis is good, Dr. Eric Widera writes. Researchers have suggested palliative care specialists achieve a set of core competencies for treating these patients. The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine will hold a free, preconference session on risk evaluation and mitigation strategies for long-acting and extended-release opioids on March 13 before its Annual Assembly in New Orleans.
