The National Roofing Contractors Association recommends that roof components should be inspected and maintained in spring and in fall, according to this article. Debris should be removed from gutters, while shingles, chimney and pipes should be inspected for deterioration or gaps. Walls and ceilings should also be checked for water damage, because it could indicate leaks in the roof.
